What’s that, another Egyptian-themed slot, eh? Yep. Mummy’s Gold from BGaming is yet another game set in what must be the gaming world’s favourite location. But, is it any good? Well, in this Mummy’s Gold review, we’ll clear away the sand (using the in-house Casino Cupid camels, of course), and see what riches await Canadian players brave enough to risk the curse… there’s always a curse.

Mummy’s Gold Game Theme

As we said, the theme here is ancient Egypt - specifically, an implausibly good-looking archeologist digging for treasure. Think Indiana Jones, or Rich Wilde and the Book of Dead in slot parlance - not groundbreaking. But, Mummy’s Gold slot does give you the opportunity to win 5,000x your bet, and it is a nicely finished game, so it’s worth digging further.

Mummy's Gold gameplay

The visuals are pretty much what we’ve come to expect from BGaming - polished, crisp cartoon style with nicely animated touches to add life. The main game takes place above ground, at the dig site, with the Indiana stand-in to the left of the screen looking pretty happy with himself (could be something to do with the gold chalice he’s found). The reels, which take a 5x3 format, are framed in stone and feature stone-hewn symbols. Late Dynastic given their roughly carved nature.

Mummy’s Gold Review of Gameplay & Features

So, the basic premise of the Mummy’s Gold game is that you’re trying to steal gold that’s been buried for thousands of years and is, shockingly, guarded by a mummy. In the base game, you spin the reels above ground, trying to land combos on 15 paylines. To add some excitement, the mummy makes appearances as a Wild, which triples line winnings. There’s also a Scatter in the form of the three Great Pyramids of Giza - if you land three or more in any position, you’ll get 10 free spins.

Before we take a look at the Mummy’s Gold free spins, let’s run through the regular symbols. The highest paying is the Eye of Horus, five of which pay 500. This is followed by an Egyptian ankh (ah, just look at my ancient Egyptian knowledge), five of which pay 300, and then what looks like a Pharaonic headdress, five of which pay 100. The remaining lower-paying symbols are hieroglyphs.

Cupid's recommendation

If the wins in the main Mummy’s Gold game feel a bit ‘so so’, you can try to boost them using the 50/50 gamble game. It’s a standard red or black card game that will double wins for each correct prediction. However, unlike many other slots, you aren’t promoted to play. Instead, you have to manually select it by clicking on the playing card symbols (located next to the spin button) after a win.

There is a Mummy’s Gold trial version available, so you can play this slot for free, but in all honesty, the gameplay is so straightforward and volatility so low, that you may as well jump straight in. So, before we move on to the Mummy’s Gold free spins and bonus game, let's recap the base gameplay features.

  • Mummy Wild - Substitutes for any symbol except the Scatter. Winnings are tripled if even one symbol in a payline consists of a Wild.

  • Pyramids Scatter - Three or more in any position award 10 free spins. Wins are added to active paylines.

  • Gamble - A traditional red or black 50/50 card game available after wins. Get it right and you’ll double your win, but get it wrong and lose it all.

Mummy’s Gold Free Spins Round

The free spins rounds take place below the desert sands in what looks like a tomb - full of golden treasure and guarded by the rather aggravated-looking Mummy. And, yet, he’d been so welcome just a moment ago, tripling our wins and all. Oh well.

While ‘conducting research’ (okay, yeah, my job involves playing games) to write this Mummy’s Gold review, I landed three pyramid Scatters and triggered the free spins round within just a few minutes.

As mentioned above, it's a low-volatility game, so expect frequent small wins and lots of free spins.

If during your initial 10 free spins, you land another three or more Scatters, you can retrigger an additional 10 free spins.

Mummy’s Gold Interface & Statistics

The main spin button is located at the bottom right of the screen. To the left of that is an autospin option. This can be set for a specific number of rounds, or unlimited. Additionally, if you click ‘Advanced’ you can access several options for stopping the autospin.

Your cash balance is displayed at the bottom left corner of the screen, and your current total bet is displayed to the right of that. To increase or decrease your bet, simply click the up or down arrows. Clicking the gear symbol above your balance will give you access to the Settings menu. Here, you can toggle music and sound FX and set volume.

Mummy’s Gold Review - Our Verdict

The Mummy’s Gold slot is a welcome addition to the ever-expanding BGaming portfolio, and an entertaining take on an ever-popular theme. It isn’t a game that pushes boundaries or introduces any revolutionary features. It’s just a simple, playable, low-volatility slot that delivers plenty of wins and free spins. This is the slot equivalent of watching an Indiana Jones movie at Christmas.

Here at Casino Cupid, we reckon if you love other ancient Egyptian-themed games and appreciate frequent wins, you should give Mummy’s Gold slot a spin today.
